Lemon Battery

Today for Science we tried to make a Lemon Battery  at first we only used four Lemons and the LED light did not work so we used two more Lemons but jet again it did not power the LED light so we keeped adding. It didn't work I think the negative and positive weren't in the right place.

What you need for this: Lemons,Nails not screws, Copper plated coins, alligator clips and wire also an LED light only 3 volts You need to make the connect wire  with the alligator clips and wire then get a few lemons and put the cleanest copper coin in each Lemon the the nail near the coin on the Lemons then put connect the clips on the nails then put it on coin Do that over and over again with all the nails and coins but leave to wires and connect it to the LED light it most likely will light up.

Tokyo Olympics Acrostic Poem

Today for writing my team made a acrostic poem which I have done before a few times and I really like to do, it was cool to think of different words to use and the words have to be related to the Olympics', I found it quite hard to find words that worked for cartian letters.

Cotton Ball Cannon

This week's Experiment I made a Cotton Ball Cannon I had to get all the things I needed first which was: two cardboard tubes, a pencil, thin strong rubber bands,  a hole puncher, scissors', tape and a cotton ball. First I cut one of the cardboard tubes in half and taped it up then I used the hole puncher to put a hole in the smallest tube now I cut four slits in the big tube on opposite sides of the tube and put the rubber bands through the slits and taping the bottom of the slits, then I pulled the rubber bands over the pencil and put the cotton ball in the big tube  so it was just touching the small tube.

The class had a test of who could go the furthest, the first few times I couldn't get it to shoot properly but then I got the cotton ball 30cm I decided to shoot at different angle and it worked I got 50cm on my second turn then on my third turn I got 125cm the person who got the furthest got 260 I think, I enjoyed this Experiment.

Olympic Value Medals.

The last two weeks I have been learning about the Olympic values, I finish that and this is my create about the Olympic values I did Silver and did the Olympic rings on my own, Cassidy did gold and Leyton did Bronze I think we all did very good it was hard to pick who was doing which Medal but we chose who was getting what Medal. The Olympic values are Excellence, Respect and Friendship, Excellence means doing your hardness even if your just trying too, Respect means caring for others feelings and options, Friendship is being loyal to those around you and caring for them, that's what the Olympic values mean to me.

The colors were easy to chose for the Medals I chose a light gray color for mine, the Silver is for Friendship, the Bronze is for Excellence and Gold is for Respect, I really enjoyed making my Medal it was a very fun experience. I hope I get to something like this in the future. What do you think I could work on?

The Egg Drop.

Today in science we did a Experiment using: Eggs, a Plate, a Toilet paper tube and a Cup, we filled up  the Cup with water but if we filled up to much the splash may be to big and wet the carpet, My bubby for the Experiment was Isobel, Isobel set it up and then hit the Plate the Egg stayed in the air for a second and then fell into the cup uncracked the first times I did it and it work but then on my 3rd turn I didn't hit the Plate with enough force and the Egg fell and cracked not that bad thought.

We did this Experiment to test Newton's First Law, once the Egg was moving it didn't want to stop moving. The container of water interrupted the egg's fall, providing a safe landing.

I enjoyed this Experiment it show me about movement and what happens when a force is interrupted it doesn't what to stop but is forced too.

Should we be prepared for a natural disaster?

Today my writing class has been learning about persuasive writing, I had to state if I was for or against the topic I am for the topic because I do think that you need to be prepared for a natural disaster I have tried to state that in my introduction.

I found it easy to plan out my persuasive writing because I know how to make paragraphs.

I found it hard to think of words that will persuasive the people reading this.

I enjoyed learning about  how to persuasive  people when you write.

Next time I will make my writing stuck out more to more people so when they read they will like it more.

Balloon Madness.

Today in science we are learning about Newton's three laws of motion and for the Experiment Mrs Bava fullend up a bit of a Balloon and then fullend up the drink bottle with vinegar Mrs Bava then put the Balloon over the bottle top  and put the baking soda into the bottle causing a reaction that fizzed up the vinegar an made the Balloon start to get bigger.

When vinegar and baking soda mix, an endothermic reaction occurs. This produces carbon dioxide which inflates the balloon. The endothermic chemical reaction will also lower the temperature in the area surrounding the vinegar and baking soda so significantly that you will be able to easily notice the change in temperature.

I found it easy to notice and observe was happening to the Balloon.

I found it hard to understand why the Balloon fills up with the chemicals.

I enjoyed  seeing the reaction from the vinegar as it started to fizz up.

Next time I will try find of  why this reaction is happening.

Image Poetry

Today we have learned about writing poetry and how to personify objects which was very interesting and was something I hadn't done that much before so it was fun to learn about it I also really like finding new ways to write and describe.

I found it easy to put the words in order and put the commas in the right places.

I found it hard to not use the same words to describe different words because the words couldn't be the same.

I enjoyed thinking about the things in the image to write about.

Next time I will make the paragraphs a bit bigger and use more describing words.

Quick Write

Today my class did a quick write were you only got a certain amount of time to write a story about some made up thing, we were given the sentence starter that was "as I peered inside I" and we had to write on about our made up story which was really fun to write and think about I also think I did a good job on this but I can always improve on my writing.

I found it easy to think about what I would write about and how I would write it.

I found it hard to find words that I could use to describe the words I use because I didn't know that much words that I could spell and that were good.

I enjoyed posting it to the slides because I get to add images and decrationing the slides.

Next time I will add more paragraphs to my writing.

Milk Explosion

Today in Science my group did an experiment were we got milk, food colouring and a cotton bud, we put the cotton bud into soap and then we drop three colours of food dye into the milk after we did that we put the tip of the cotton bud into the milk and the colours move in all directions away from the cotton bud. After a long time of doing that the colours mixed into an emerald green.

The secret of the bursting colors is in the chemistry of that tiny drop of soap. Like other oils, milk fat is a non-polar molecule and that means it doesn’t dissolve in water. When soap is mixed in, however, the non-polar (hydrophobic) portion of micelles (molecular soap structures in solution) break up and collect the non-polar fat molecules. Then the polar surface of the micelle (hydrophilic) connects to a polar water molecule with the fat held inside the soap micelle. Thanks to the soap connection, literally, the non-polar fat can then be carried by the polar water. This is when the fun begins.

I found it easy to get the stuff we need to use for the experiment like the cotton bud and the soap my group got the rest of the things we needed.

I found it hard to know who was doing what in my group I didn't what we were doing that much in my group because this was my first time being in my real group so we didn't know each other.

I enjoyed putting in the cotton bud because it was so fun and cool seeing the colours burst into each other.

Next time I will let someone else have the first turn because I think they will enjoy it too.

Lava Lamps

I made Lava lamps with my Science group It was very fun because the oil sat on top of the water because it has more density  then water even if you shake the oil and the water up the oil will not mix with the water because it expelled the water molecules.

my group chose yellow dye for the water so when it bubbles the bubbles will be yellow watch I thought was a good idea because yellow stands out when you put a light on it.

The reaction;

oil stays above the water because the oil is lighter than the water or, more specifically, less dense than water. The oil and water do not mix because of something called “intermolecular polarity.” Molecular polarity basically means that water molecules are attracted to other water molecules. They get along fine, and can loosely bond together (drops.) This is similar to magnets that are attracted to each other. Oil molecules are attracted to other oil molecules, they get along fine as well. But the structures of the two molecules do not allow them to bond together.

I enjoyed Learning about the destiny of oil and how it expels molecules

I found easy listening to the teacher and then following the instaderings and not going off task

I found hard doing the Reflection and pouring the oil because I nearly dropped the oil

Next time I will help my group with the experiments because I didn't do much I mostly just watch what was happening.

Making Bath Bombs.

Last week in Science we made bath bombs for mother's day.

We observed Mrs Bava make the powder and tell us about the reaction and that only reacts when you add water the class each got one or two boulds I got two so I dyed one blue and the other I dyed it yellow I had to mix the dyed in one at a time the yellow wasn't really coming out very bright

The reaction;

When a bath bomb comes in contact with water, the baking soda and citric acid react to make

carbon dioxide bubbles. This is an acid–base reaction, where baking soda (also called sodium

bicarbonate) is a weak base and citric acid is a weak acid.

Once the bath bomb dried the blue was very spotty but the yellow was very nice and not spotty.

I enjoyed giving it to my mum afterschool for mothers day

I found it easy to put the powder into the mold because it was easy to mix with the powders.

I found it hard to make the power have the right amount of water because I put to much in so I was mixing but it keeped fuzzing up so I had to pat the powder down.

I enjoyed the Bath bomb once I got it because it was very nice looking with the to colours mixed together.

Next time I will try put not as much water so it won't fuzz up as much.

Camp Kaitawa reflection and Animation.

I reflectioned on going to camp I was writing about camp Kaitawa and making animation   I had to write in full sentences and describe my time at camp.

The year fives weren't here so we had to do it in one day and post it I didn't get the blog post finseh in the right amount of time thats why im posting it at night.

I found it easy to remember what we did at camp and write it down on the slide.

I found it hard to make the drawing in the animation because the drawing tool wasn't making the shapes that I wanted it to.

I enjoyed making the animation because I think it turned out very good.

Next time I will try add quality audio to my animation.

Fright in the Lake

This week I have been learning about adjectives, nouns, adverbs in writing my story is nonfiction which means its real and not fake, I tried to make my writing look neat and tidy I put a nice front on the writing and a background on my title page.

I found it easy to decorate the title page and both of the slides.

I found it hard to edit all the words and think of better ones.

Next time I will try describe the lake and my surroundings.
